Cannot connect the Encryption database.

Verify that Microsoft Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) is working. ODBC uses the same connection used by the Encryption database.

Cannot start the rotator service.

Verify that the SQL user has been granted the proper permissions. The user must have admin/ownership rights and have permissions set that would enable the user to create tables.

Do I need to manually "host key" (i.e., generate encryption key) every time I restart the key server?

Yes, this must be done whenever the key server is re-started.. To manually host a key:

  1. Open Start > Programs > Nodus Technologies > Nodus Encryption > Nodus.Encryption.KeyServer.ServiceMonitor to open the Nodus Key Server Monitor
  2. The Nodus Key Server Monitor opens. The Key Status should display "Service Not Available"
  3. Start the Key Monitor by clicking the blue arrow icon
  4. Press the New Key button
  5. In the pass codes window, enter a pair of pass codes (each will need to be entered twice for verification).
  6. Click the OK button
  7. The Key Server is now running. This can be verified by checking the server status messages on the Key Monitor interface - "NodusKeyServer: Running" and the "Key Status: Hosted"

How do I reset my passcodes?

Go to All Programs > Nodus Technologies > Nodus Encryption > Nodus Key Server Monitor. Click on Change Passcodes in this window. You will be asked to enter original passcodes and then you can manually reset your passcodes.

Error message appears: "E1,3,4,5,7,8 encryption service unavailable, please check key service and try again"

Verify that the DSS key is hosted and/or all DSS window services started. Re-start the windows key service and re-enter two passcodes.

Which ports can be opened and for what purpose?

Ports 8003-8005 and port 443 can be opened for:

  • E-mail notifications
  • To enable the gateway server URL to communicate with the server

Is there any way to bypass having to enter the keys after rebooting?

There is no procedure to skip re-entering the passcodes. The encrypted key is hosted on RAM and will be wiped out every time the server is rebooted. This is mandated to be in compliance with PA-DSS.
